GERMAN RADIO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA SAARBRÜCKEN KAISERLAUTERN
PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR: CHRISTOPH POPPEN
CONCERT SEASON 2010/11
ARTISTIC HIGHLIGHTS

Music unites. All over the world it brings people together from across language barriers. I believe in the power of music, its part in our becoming an increasingly big community.
Christoph Poppen, Principal Conductor of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

Works by Claude Vivier
Principal conductor Christoph Poppen has awarded the Canadian composer Claude Vivier (1948-1983) a very special position for the coming season: His compositions are pervaded by the quest for meaning and the examination of various religions, and vocals often play a central role in them. In later years, Vivier developed a fantasy language, the invention as it were of a generally understandable artistic universal language, in which he formulated statements at whose meaning we can only guess.
